Teriyaki Jerky
If you're reading this, you probably do not know the benefits of eating the right amount of protein in your diet. But just in case, protein is essential for maintaining your immune system strong, protecting it against bacteria, viruses or other harmful foreign invaders. Protein also helps strengthen muscles, bones and joints (actually what we're made). While depending on different factors such as exercise routine, diet and other factors, an average person should consume between 2 and 2.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. So if you weigh 160 lbs. you should consume between 64-80 grams per day (consult a nutritionist, physician or other qualified professional to meet your needs before starting any diet). Many weight lifters diet and choose to be on a diet high in proteins. However, as with many other foods from the diet, some protein-rich foods are disgusting. So here's a short list of great appetizer high protein for a change.
The first, and my personal favorite is beef jerky. One ounce of dried meat is approximately 11 grams of protein, but be care with high salt content in many brands, just look for lower salt content of brands. Protein bars. Not all are equal, but there are different brands of great tasting and available that are low in fat and carbohydrates, ranging on average between 10-40 grams of protein per bar. Protein shakes. Yes, many in poor taste, but try fruit flavored shakes for the best flavor. I prefer to avoid the strawberry and chocolate. You'll get about 18 grams of protein per serving. Mix as well, like the taste of a flavor can age rapidly. Anything with peanut butter. Spread it on bread, crackers, celery, whatever. Peanut butter is more high in calories and fat, so if you're going to diet salted peanuts. Really no nut is good too, or sunflower seeds. There are plenty of cereals high protein available, you can only eat dry as a snack. Great tasting chicken sandwiches, like salmon and beef (yes, they are all technically meals, but can be cooked and cut into smaller portions). I hate cottage cheese, but many people seem to love. Yogurt has protein. Then wash everything with a glass of milk.
So there it is. A lot of great high protein snack. You can not love your taste, but it sure is better than eggs, sardines, and tofu. This is just a short list, many more great-tasting foods high protein. Just remember to check labels for fat, sodium, calories, and other major outlets and again please consult a dietitian or doctor to see how much protein you should eat.
