Firstly, most puppies and kittens will have worms, even if they are born in a clean home with a clean Mother and Father. This fact has been documented many times. And, it is also a scary fact that pets can potentially pass of their worms to their human masters.
So, it pays to be very careful and take care of the problem early and even often, if necessary.
Many people will take a newborn puppy or kitten to veterinarian and the "vet" will check them out and make sure that they're healthy, maybe give them some shots, a flea collar, and often some medicine for worms. However, not everyone has access to "vet" all the time and it's just not always practical to be taking your pet to "vet" every few months – as the costs can really add.
If you have a dog or cat, puppy, kitten, or otherwise that is under weight, sluggish, fatigued, and has a swollen belly the chances almost one hundred percent that your pet has worms. They could be pinworms, tapeworms, or some other type. In any case, the symptoms will always be the same.
What's happening inside your pet, in a nutshell, is that the worms are breeding and stealing your pet's nutrition so that your pet won't grow properly and flourish like he or she should. Do not despair, however. There are several tried and true methods to killing worms that people have been using for generations. These methods even work on humans, if you're unlucky enough to get infected with your pet's worm problem.
Now, it's best to very careful with these home remedies because, while they may indeed work, especially at higher dosages, they can make your pet sick as well. Please get as much quality information about how to do this as possible, do this incorrectly and your pet could get hurt.
Some things which have worked for others are the use of small amounts of garlic powder, small amounts of tobacco, pumpkin seeds, and the contents of probiotic capsules, all of them mixed in with the pet's food.
Probiotics are probably the safest method and is the one which I would try first, this really can't hurt your pet as probiotics are "good" bacteria which tend to grow on plants, these bacteria actually all around us in small quantities. In higher doses they can bolster the immune system and dislodge parasites.
Pumpkin seeds are also probably harmless, especially is it's just a small handful. Tobacco while effective, it is a poison, and although a very small dose (about a small pinch between the thumb and index finger) will most likely not injury your pet you should be cautious. I would save this method in reserve if nothing else works.
Garlic, while it has been observed as being effective, has also been classified as a "poison" for dogs by veterinarians. So, there is conflicting information on the subject. It's my guess that in very small dosages it won't do any serious harm, and it will very likely kill the worms. Of course, if you don't want to use homemade herbal worm remedies, there are several over the counter products which you can reportedly pick up at the store for around $10 or so. They may or may not work, and may or may not be natural products
If none of these methods work on our pet, seeing the "vet" may be your only choice. And, if you or someone in your family becomes infected, using cloves or raw garlic and raw pumpkin seeds is your best option.
