Save Chocolate - Chocolate Could become an endangered species?
Chocolate has been in my life as I have always lived on the planet. In fact, Chocolate has been enjoyed in the United States since mid-1800. The first use of chocolate was known as 1100 BC, the ancient people drinking a fizzy drink a lot before Mayans and Aztecs. However, there is real concern that chocolate can not be all in unlimited supply in the future.
Not many people know that chocolate comes from. Chocolate comes from the seeds or kernels of the cocoa pod, pods of soccer grow in size as Theobroma cacao trees in locations close to Ecuador. In Greek Theobroma literally means "food of the gods" and the chocolate has been a divine food for 3,000 years.
Consumers around the world spend more than $ 20 billion a year on chocolate, but may not be enough. Cocoa trees can only be grown in an environment without declaring the natural forest. They can not grow in the forest has been reduced. Cocoa trees need the shelter of larger trees in the forest to survive. Unfortunately, many timber companies are harvesting the largest trees, leaving the cocoa crop to wilt.
Due to high demand for cocoa for cocoa and chocolate, has put enormous pressure on cocoa farmers to plant cacao trees in full sunlight directly. From the cacao tree is a slow growing tree that prefers the shade of trees larger canopy, vast amounts of fertilization and pest control must be made by the cocoa trees to flower. This causes great stress on trees cocoa, and it is not their natural environment making them more susceptible to pests and diseases.
Cocoa is a crop very fragile. The flowers of the cacao tree need to be pollinated by local insects in the forest. From tropical forests have become unbalanced in recent decades, and in some areas there, many farmers have used cocoa pollinating the trees by hand.
The forest itself is fragile and more house plants, animal and insect species elsewhere in the world. Cacao trees themselves are home to more than 80 different species of birds like macaws and toucans.
Personally, I have not paid much attention to the deforestation of the jungle and have failed to participate. Doing some research, I learned that nearly half of the world's species plants, animals and microorganisms will be destroyed or severely threatened over the next 25 years due to rainforest deforestation, including our precious cacao trees.
Remember .... the rainforests of the planet less cocoa trees mean less which means less of a supply of chocolate. Experts have predicted the cost of chocolate will increase dramatically if forests are not saved. Thus, creating more of a demand for chocolate really help save the rainforest! For Please do your part: an interest in the forest and make a difference any way I can. For now, eat more chocolate!
