Endangered Elephants

Being mammals themselves, human beings tend to have more passion and interest in other mammals, especially those who are in danger of extinction. First, what is most unlike other mammals is the existence of vertebrate anatomy, and the fact that females produce milk to feed the young, among other things. IUCN says there are about 1,100 endangered or threatened species of mammals, which makes about 20% of all mammals. That said, let's look at one of the most endangered of them on our planet.
There are two types of elephants, the main difference is the size, the African, which is larger, and Asia. Africans, of course, comes from Africa and lives in all types of habitats, from dense forests, savannah, through swamps, semidesserts, the grasslands and deserts. It feeds on a variety of plants such as grass or leaves and branches of trees, the fruits when available. Show remarkable intelligence when feeding times, cutting down trees to reach most of the edible parts, or digging in search of roots or groundwater. Because this digestion healthy living to 60 years old in nature, and up to 80 in captivity. Its age can be determined by the length of time spent grinding teeth. Without them, the elephant can not chew their food, and die.
The reduction of the population African elephant is due to three different factors: 1) the killing of elephants for their tusks (ivory), which is a valuable resource. This is the most influential factor in reducing of its population. 2) desertification, a major cause of the disappearance of elephants not only, but many other species too. 3) The factor Recently, it has not always been around, the conflict between humans and elephants on earth. This is due to the massive growth of human population. Of course, there are many other reasons, the availability of weapons, apathy toward the elephants, as they sometimes destroy crops, untrained authorities wildlife and many more, but these three are most important.
Asian elephants are smaller then their relatives in Africa. They live in the highlands and altitudes, as the hills and mountains, even at 3600 m, in habitats such as dense forests or grassy plains. Can be found in places like the Himalayas, the mountains of China, Sri Lanka, Indo-Burma, India and Indo-China. What is specific to these elephants is that the males begin to live a lonely life when they reach sexual maturity, is at the age of 10-17 years. This is probably because they are still young or weak to contribute to the reproduction and attracting older women they reach their sexual maturity at the age of 9-12 years. Females always live in family groups consisting of mothers, daughters, sisters and immature males, which normally has about 30 to 50 members, although there you can find groups of up to 100. They feed on grasses, twigs, bark, flowers, fruits, and even dig for roots, like bamboo.
Due to technological advances in the 19th century, it was unlikely that here, but they came from abroad, the population of Asian elephants severely diminished. Feeding areas were destroyed or taken by humans, which is the biggest problem for the population. They also were killed because they destroyed crops and for their tusks. Females do not have fangs, so it did not die for this, but sometimes extreme male hunting lead to a disturbed and problematic female: male elephant relationship.
