Does your kitchen looks a bit on the soft side? Many of us have at least a spice rack of last Christmas, but how often it really is used? Creating a well-seasoned dish has a little practice, but you have to be willing to work on the basis of trial and error. Read on for some tips you can use when they venture into the world of herbs and spices.
First, let's start with the use of herbs. Below is a list of herbs that are commonly purchased in a store racks spice, and examples of dishes that complement each other well. This is only a guide, so do not be afraid to experiment with different herbs in her closet. With herbs, you can easily go by smell. Open a bottle-sniff that would go well with the dish you have in mind?
Basil: tomato sauces, pesto vinaigrette
Bay leaves: soups, marinades, sauces
Cardamom: pickling, but is sometimes used in baking
Celery Flakes: soups, salads, sauces and
Celery Salt: pickling, potato salad, coleslaw
Cilantro: pickled, beef, oriental food, curry
Dill: soups, potatoes, fish, sauces
Italian Seasoning: pizza sauce, spaghetti, lasagna
Marjoram: chicken, sausages, stews, soups, meats, potatoes, pizza and spaghetti sauces
Mint lamb
Onion Salt: Italian dishes, soups, sauces
Oregano: Italian dishes, stew, soups, sauces
Parsley: potato dishes, eggs, soups, sauces
Romero: most of the roast, stuffing
Sage: chicken, pork, stuffing
Thyme: meat dishes, sauces, clam chowder
The spices can be a bit more complicated, since their odors are not as pronounced as herbs, so it can only be familiar with the individual taste of each spice.
Allspice: It tastes like a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Bake, roast, soups, sauces
Cayenne Pepper: meat, chile, Mexico and Louisiana-style food, seafood (care-a pinch or less is sufficient, this stuff is hot!)
Chili Powder: chile, stews, beef (hot)
Cinnamon: baking, hot drinks (cocoa, apple cider, chai)
Cloves baked ham (cooked), desserts, pickles
Comino: chili, beef
Curry powder: a mixture of Indian spices (turmeric, garlic, coriander, cumin, ginger) curry, meat, poultry, seafood, oriental dishes and India
Garlic Salt: sauces, meat, chicken, pasta, soup
Ginger chutney, preserves, Eastern and Indian food
Lemon Pepper salads, seafood, poultry, meat
Paprika: eggs, seafood, salads, sauces
Red Pepper: sauces, meat (hot)
Turmeric: curry, meat, eggs
It looks very much to take, but you get the hang of what each of herbs and spices can contribute to their plates as they become familiar with the combinations of different flavors. The best way to learn how to use seasonings to create a sauce or a dish that is familiar. Once you've gotten the "normal" flavor, wasting time to create a flavor that suits you. For example, try to make spaghetti sauce from scratch rather than buy things already done in a jar. You know what should taste like spaghetti, and this is almost a fail-safe in the season learning from scratch. All you need is a few cans of tomato paste and its shelf spice. You could use "Italian Seasoning" if it does, but it is a trap so far seasoning. The basics of herbs spaghetti should include basil, oregano or marjoram (or both, if you will, however, is simply oregano oregano), parsley, cilantro (a little), and thyme. From the platform spices, just throw a little garlic salt to taste and you're set!
Do not be afraid to be adventurous in the kitchen, all great chefs have to start somewhere hand and learning the basics of herbs and spices will give a great foundation.
