Chipotle and Cayenne chili powders. ?

I was wondering if chipotle is for the heat and cayenne is for the flavour. Or is the other way around- chipotle: flavor and cayenne: heat.

Both, but cayenne is much stronger than chipotle considering most of the chili sauce contains cayenne powder. and most hot spread contains chipotle for its mild sweet taste and good for smoked.

Description

Mexene chili powder, 20-ounce plastic canisters (pack of 3) was designed to duplicate the popular taste of chili made by cowboys and loved by everyone in the area. As the word spread and its reputation grew from winning chili recipe contests, mexene's distribution and brand awareness grew along with it. Today, mexene is manufactured in el paso, texas and distributed by bruce foods. The original recipe and manufacturing process remain the same as they were in 1906. Throughout that time mexene chili powder has used only the highest quality sun-ripened pre-frost chili peppers blended with cumin, oregano, and garlic. Just take a pinch between your finger and thumb, rub, and smell the delicious aroma. Mexene chili powder is called "the chili champions' choice" and is endorsed by casi, the chili appreciation society international. Mexene has been used in many of the winning recipes from the world championship chili cookoff in terlingua, texas.

Features

  • Pack of three, 20-ounce plastic canisters (total of 60-ounces)

YUM!

by Angela Richmond from Wenatchee, WA USA on 2010-05-01
This actually tastes good right out of the container! There is no bitterness, very roasty. So yummy! I have chili simmering right now!

Chilicious!

My wife uses this to prepare chili and it makes the best chili I have ever eaten, even in Texas or Mexico. And the Amazon price was a huge bargain compared to what she had been paying.

Mexene Chili Powder

by James F. Brown from Mancelona, MI USA on 2010-01-22
I have used Mexene for about the last 10 years. I found it at a small spice shop in Detroit. I was without it for several years when the spice shop closed. I couldn't find a suitable replacement no matter how hard I tried. Finally in frustration I used the internet and found it here. There is none that even begins to compare. Mexene is simply the best. Not too hot but oh, so flavorful. It is well worth a try for those who seek the best.

MEXENE CHILI POWDER'S THE BEST

by P. Malley from EUSTIS, FL. on 2010-01-07
SIRS,FOR OVER SIX DECADES I HAVE BEEN EATING CHILI AND THE BEST IS NATURALLY MADE WITH "THE BEST" CHILI POWDER, WHICH IS MEXENE'S.MY MOTHER STARTED ME OUT AS A YOUNGSTER EATING HER 'SKILLET CHILI" AND I HAVE BEEN EATING THAT SAME RECIPE EVER SINCE. NOW I HAVE TRIED ALL KINDS OF OTHER CHILI'S (TEXAS, GOLD STAR, CINCINNATI, ETC. ETC) HOWEVER, I WILL STILL GO BACK TO MY OLD STANDBY MADE WITH MEXENE CHILI POWDER.ONE CAN PURCHASE OTHER CHILI POWDERS AT DIFFERENT PLACES FOR CHEAPER PRICES AND YES, IN SOME CASES FOR MORE COSTLY PACKAGING. BELIEVE ME, IT WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE THAT REALLY COUNTS.RESPECTFULLY YOURS,PHIL MALLEY, RET.

This Chili Powder Is Great

by Larry from Lilburn, Georgia United States on 2009-06-17
I have searched for Mexene in our grocery stores in Atlanta, and found some at Kroger. Now they don't have it, so I found it here. The taste is a blend of red chili pepper, cumin, garlic, oregano and salt, exactly what you want from a chili powder. This goes well with any tex-mex dish, chili, eggs, shrimp, creole, whatever needs some spicing up. It is not too hot, so the kiddies shouldn't mind it if you dumped a little too much in their sloppy joes! This deal is very economical as it's less than .30 an ounce. Try it.

Would give it more than 5 stars if I could

by TexMex Food Lover from Virginia on 2010-03-19
I grew up in California and this was the chili powder of choice in Southern California. Moved to the East Coast after I married, and found that it is not available here. I now either have to order it from Amazon or have a friend buy it for me when she visits family in Texas.

Before you blast the seller, read the description. This price is NOT for one bottle, it's for 6!!

Gebhardt Chili Powder ->>> Six Pack

by Dragobert from Virginia, USA on 2010-01-09
Gebhardt's is the best chili powder I have found for making my authentic chili - and all my other southwest cooking favorites. It has richer flavor, just the right touch of "hotness" without overpowering the sauce or meat. Used to have to bug friends in Texas to send a good supply of it for the years I didn't visit Austin. Now i buy it online. Note: the other reviewers who said it is expensive did not notice that you get six (6) 3 oz bottles - not one. So at $4 a bottle times the 6, it is a fair price.

BEST CHILI POWDER ON THE MARKET

by Donna R. Denton from on 2009-12-16
My husband will not use ANY other kind of chili powder. We are unable to find it in grocery stores, so I buy a 6-pack for him every year and put the bottles in his stocking. It truly is the BEST chili powder available.

Great product, terrible seller

by Shotgunron from Charleston on 2009-11-03
I've used Gebhardt chili powder all my life. It is great stuff. But what is up with the price this seller is asking??? This has to be a mistake. Buy elsewhere for 4 bucks, not the $17.83 these guys are asking.

I cannot feel more offended

by K. Sook from on 2010-04-21
I can't believe that they sent me a product made in year 2008. I would've never bought it if I knew I'd receive a 2-year-old grocery. And what kind of respond I heard when I called? They said thet can't give a refund on foods. Now I'm sitting miserably in the kitchen all day long thinking that there's not much time left till the expiration date and I have to throw away this 'never-seen-it-fresh' chili powder before I can use a half of it.

Why do they call it "chili" powder when it's hot?

by Robert C. Wood from CDA, ID on 2010-02-06
I purchased this at Costco until they stopped carrying it. It's probably not the best gourmet chili powder on the market, but does very nicely for my needs. And, the price at Amazon it great.

Good, consistent, fresh flavor

by Patrick W. Crabtree from Lucasville, OH USA on 2008-05-25
I use many different types of chili powders in my cooking, both "pure" (red pepper types) and "blended" types which incorporate cumin as an additive. I use McCormick chili powders most frequently for my various "regular chili" recipes (I have about 10 such recipes) and it's a fine product. I also use it in my Cincinnati Chili and in my own fajita and barbequed pork rib marinade blends (two different marinades). As to McCormick spices in general, they are consistently excellent and always fresh, a consideration which is of imperative importance in cooking. Old spices, especiallly chili powders, should be tossed and replaced! If you're going for the very best common spices, regardless of the price and the trouble to obtain them, Penzey's Spices are usually the best of all -- but, again, McCormick's spices are still first-class, reasonably priced, and always available at the local grocery store. For chili powders specifically, I also use the ones available (especially for ancho and chipotle types) from "Kokopelli's Kitchen," an online seller.Highly recommended.
