Chicken Curry (Pinoy Style)

Flavorful Chicken Recipes With Fruit

Fruit juices have been used for many years in marinade recipes, making it a great accompaniment for meat or chicken. The combination of juicy, sweet fruits with succulent chicken is a real winner. A lot of chicken recipes with fruit can be cooked on the grill, because the smoky grill adds yet more flavor to the tender meat.

If you are using fruit to marinate chicken, pay attention to the marinating time. A tough steak might need to be marinated overnight to break down the tough fibers but chicken is only marinated to flavor it, rather than to tenderize it. Leaving chicken marinating for too long might make it go mushy.

Adding Fruit to Chicken Curries

Chicken curries are great for experimenting with, if you want to try adding fruit to your chicken recipes. Throw in a chopped apple or banana, a drained can of chopped peach or even a handful of sultanas. You can add fruit to sweet curries with coconut milk or cream, or to hot, spicy and sharp-flavored ones. The fruit will enhance the sweetness of a sweet curry or give a nice contrast in a hot one.

You can choose when to add the fruit, depending on how soft you want it. If you add a sliced banana to a curry five minutes before serving it, the slices will be warm but intact. Adding the banana at the beginning of the cooking time means the banana will gradually dissolve and give the curry a sweet flavor. It also works as a thickener if you do that.

Recipe for Boneless Chicken in a Raspberry Glaze

This delicious recipe combines an easy three ingredient sauce with chicken breast and raspberries. You might prefer to switch the raspberries and raspberry jam for strawberry and strawberry jam, or peaches and peach jam. You will need to use fresh fruit in this recipe, for the best results.

The combination of mustard with jam gives this boneless chicken a wonderfully spicy, sweet finish. This recipe serves six people and it is nice with French fries, boiled or mashed potatoes, or rice.

Great meal-maker!

by Linda Halsey from on 2010-09-09
This product makes a great butter chicken. Suggestions: We brown the chicken first and we also use half milk/half water (it's a little creamier and less spicy). We also add pieces of cooked, cubed potatoes and(small) pieces of cooked cauliflower. With rice and a little nan brad from Trader Joes, it's one of our family's favorite meals.

Easy and authentic

I love this paste. I substitute coconut milk for the water and get a creamier sauce. YUM!

Hot, Hot, Hot, and more Hot!!!

by Doggie Dress-Up .com from on 2010-09-01
When they describe this as a "mildly spiced gravy" - DON'T BELIEVE IT! This is the hottest thing I have eaten in a long time. In fact, I could only take one bite. I couldn't eat any more of it because it was so spicy. Felt like I was chewing up an actual hot pepper! I followed the directions exactly, and even added vegetables to it, and served it over brown rice. I am not a hot spice fan, and I was very misled by the description given for this product. I did give this 2 stars because it did have decent flavor if it wasn't for the heat of it. Without the heat, it would have been delicious. Now I have 5 more packages of this and they will probably go in the garbage. I doubt even a soup kitchen could serve this stuff.

And the award goes to...

...Kitchens of India Butter Chicken Curry Paste!!! I ordered this curry for two main reasons: I've been thinking about trying to cook an Indian dish and it would get here in three days, thanks to free TwoDay Shipping as a student on Amazon. I did the research, read all 83 reviews, and went ahead and decided to purchase. It got here yesterday and it is simply amazing. I altered the recipe a little bit due to some reviewer's noting that it salty and spicy. Seems like the kind of thing you can do your own thing with. I'm a college kid cooking for myself and so I need each pack to make a stew that will last longer than just that night's dinner. With that in mind, I did the following ~ love onions so I dumped about half a small white onion and the 3tablespoons butter in and let that cook for a little while ~ next added chicken because africans don't just toss raw chicken into sauce. I let it brown pretty well on both sides (5mins approx). and it was 1 and a half whole chicken breast cut up into fairly big pieces. ~ substituted '1 cup water' for a little less than half a pint of Shamrock Heavy Cream (let that sit for 10mins or so) and by this time the heat is way low as to not curdle the milk, and because I wanted the chicken to be more than 1/2 way done. also tossed in lots of peas and carrots in tiny bitesized pieces. ~ now the paste and two whole basil leaves! ~ I added about 3/4 teaspons of flour to thicken it slightly, and water as I saw fit. Simmered for 15mins after the addition of paste. The end result was a curry that is slightly sweet, a little creamy, and very much what the Kitchens of India served up! I don't know what anyone's 'hot meter' is comparable to mine but Africans like it hot and Southwest food is pretty hot! This was tame in comparison - maybe a 4 out of 10 - but I liked it that way. I have a subscription but it looks like one pack is enough to last me at least 4 days! I would certainly recommend this to anyone with a hankering for curry. It was really quite delicious.Pros - slightly sweet thick curry, easy to make, directions were clear (even if i altered them), quick prep time for the chicken and everything else I put in. Cons - none! I'm not tempted to try it with just water to get the full effect of spice or salt. But I'm sure I'd like it too!

Better than take-out

I love this curry paste! It is very flavorful, quick and easy to make. Since it is a paste, you can add whatever you like. I usually make two packets at a time with half chicken and half chickpeas or white beans. I also like to add sauteed onions and extra curry powder. It is very tasty.

Decent but could be better

by V. patel from USA on 2010-08-18
I got my packets in a few days ago and I decided to make one today. Directions were simple and easy. I even added a few veggies to go along with the mixture. My end product wasn't as juicy as the picture on the box but I like it a bit dry anyway. I saw a review that complained about too much salt. Indeed it is a bit salty (especially if you taste the curry mixture alone) but I found the end product to be manageable. The taste is why this product doesn't receive 5 stars. I expected a curry taste to match products I eat at Indian restaurants but this one was slightly different. I've made homemade mixtures that taste better. It was still good but I found myself getting tired of the taste as I became more full.I probably won't be buying this specific product again but I may see if they have other options.

Great product!

I have a hard time finding this in the store not only did I find it here but it was cheaper than the store. Great deal!

Authentic, but hard to cook than I imagined

by Sungyeol Shin from on 2010-05-03
I thought this curry is a ready made one that only needs the boiling. However, it was a paste that needs watering, long boiling and most of all, chicken meat separately. It means: you cannot use this curry in the camping. (That was what I intended.Taste was good.

Very tasty and easy meal

by Eric Gunn from RODEO, NM, US on 2010-04-18
I just made this and it was quite good. I added sweet onions and mushrooms which really added depth to the dish. I'm sure this would taste great plain as well. I'm going to experiment with more vegetables in the future. It was a bit more spicy than the butter chicken paste. I tasted some saffron and ginger and perhaps a kick of red pepper. Try making some homemade naan bread to go along with it.

It tastes good as it is supposed to

by Yokesh Parasuraman from Ohio, USA on 2010-03-08
It tastes very good for a guy who doesnt cook very often and bored with the same type of food everytime. It has more oil floating which I noticed after cooking. If you are very particular on diet, you may have to avoid it.

Description

Poultry on the Farm provides an excellent overview of the development and care of chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Each type of bird has its own section in the film and different stages of growth are shown for each type. The film documents chicken eggs in incubation machinery, including several views of the different stages of embryonic development. Then, the newly hatched chicks go to live in the brooder house. Mother ducks and geese are shown with their chicks as well. There is some discussion about the bird's different beak shapes and how they've evolved to fit various environments. This film is an enriching historical look at livestock farming techniques as well as all the processing and industry that comes with it.
