The Missing Ingredient

There can be noticed, but there is some missing ingredient in the food we eat which could ruin your life. Take asparagus, for example. Now what could be missing? I am a chef, I can help.

I know. I know. Vehicles that are purple and are to buy your purple passion asparagus farm. None of those things that is carried on average 1250 miles from factory farms to reach the platform to produce, exhausted, in its market. Nope. You get good, organic, farmers market and cook properly and correctly, only approved, that the steam (according A recent study in the Journal of the Science of Food). Good.

After the show and knows kina good. So what's missing? Perhaps his chef suggest, add a little butter Meyers lemon, some French sea salt and imported, fresh ground black pepper. Now that you know very well, you gourmet with a personal chef. But something is missing?

Now read the fine print and discover the most essential nutrients folic acid or vitamin B9 is just not all there and all what was lost when cooked (according to the USDA). And to make matters worse, no matter where you bought the asparagus or even if it's purple, white or green. Because The only thing the Department of Agriculture United States knows for sure is that probably does not have an adequate amount of folate to you in the first place. Keep reading.

All right. So that folate is colorless, something that can not prove and it's something you can not live without it. In fact, you and I and whatever color you are eating asparagus have something in common: none of us can live without folic acid (Andrew D. Hanson, Horticultural Sciences Department, University of Florida, communication staff). By deduction, we know that asparagus done enough by itself, but maybe not enough for you. So how do you know enough it exists or not?

You do not, period. Science may tell you, but try to find that answer. Of course I could have done an analysis Nutrient before cooking and after cooking and you would find out for sure. But that set you back a bunch of lettuce, if you understand me. And the asparagus not the plate to very beautiful and I like to quit as his chef.

You say, so what? I knew it was coming. Your life without adequate folate or vitamin B9? If your main source of folic acid was asparagus then you could end up putting at risk for a range of devastating health problems. Here is the short list: heart disease, birth defects, developmental delay (children) and low levels can lead to anemia in adults at risk added to colon cancer. Oh, your body absolutely needs folate to produce new cells and genetic material. Darn details.

But Do not throw asparagus, yet.

As science built the story of this missing ingredient, the study by study, and we discovered what happens when there is all there, the federal government stepped in to help solve the problem. But science first to show that they were not getting enough folate from our natural foods. In fact, about 50 or more years, science has shown that foods rich in folate is (or was) of asparagus, but also found in other plants green leaf, eggs and beans. All this has been published by the USDA and FDA. However, in 1998, the Food and Drug Administration began requiring manufacturers to enhance grain their foods with folic acid, a synthetic form of folic acid.

And folic acid deficiencies low and behold, they are becoming rarely, nutritionists (which is what most of all graduates in nutrition can contact most likely is, the touch of a few and see).

However, folate levels in our natural foods are still low to sustain our health and our diet should be enriched or suffer the consequences. We know for a fact, because science has established that beyond doubt and in agreement with the Federal Government. Moreover, no less an authority than the Harvard University (Harvard's Department of Public Health) said that fruits and vegetables alone, we can not provide adequate nutrition, we need supplements to fill the missing ingredients in our food.

So now we know there are missing ingredients in our foods that were there, but not now We do not know why: the baseline to obtain adequate nutrition from our food has shifted.

As a chef I recommend it is probably better eat your asparagus, steamed and sauce over and pop a vitamin supplement rich in folic acid (a daily dose of 400 to 800 mcg is recommended by the FDA-Check It Out with your doctor before you start).

Of course, if you do not like searching for the missing ingredients in their food you can eat some acid-fortified cereal Folic and other tasty ingredients.

What could add spice to this recipe to spice up?

Ingredients 1 / 2 cup raw white rice 3 / 4 cup water 4 green peppers 1 onion, chopped 4 tablespoons olive oil 8 oz fresh textured vegetable protein 2 tablespoons chopped parsley 2 cups tomato sauce 4 oz grated mozzarella cheese salt to taste black pepper to taste Directions Combine rice and water in small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Cut tops of peppers, seeds inside, and arrange the peppers in a baking dish. Chop usable portion of the top. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Saute chopped peppers and onions in oil until soft. Add the textured vegetable protein and parsley. Reduce heat to low and continue cooking for 5 minutes. Mix the cooked rice 1 1 / 5 cups of tomato sauce. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour the mixture into the peppers, and on top of each with the remaining tomato sauce.

I love garlic and I'd like to add some chopped garlic.

Description

Chili is many things to many people. Originally, it was a concoction of meat, spices, and practically nothing else, and many cooks who still make it this way (Texas style) claim that's the only real chili. For some of us, chili means the dish of neighborhood potlucks: rich and savory, laden with beans and tomatoes. In the Southwest chili means chili verde, or green chili, a brew of fresh green peppers and succulent pork. Cincinnati has its very own style of chili, flavored with Middle Eastern spices and served on pasta. There's also an ever increasing range of nontraditional chilis - vegetarian, chicken, venison, that form their own unique category. You'll find all of these fascinating regional and social variations covered in the following pages, as you delve into the roadmaps of your chili adventure: the recipes.
