Decoding Effective Heartburn Home Remedy

Heartburn is a common, digestive problem. It is caused by a number of reasons. The most common causes include eating large meals and certain foods that are known to irritate the digestive tract. However, heartburn can also be a primary symptom of more serious conditions like gastric acid reflux. While reflux and the resulting acidity are occasionally suffered by most people at some point in their lives, it can take a more serious form among others. Heartburn is essentially a burning-like sensation in the upper chest cavity when the naturally-occurring acids in the stomach are pushed along the esophagus. Whatever may be the reason, heartburn can be easily treated by following some very simple remedies explained below:

Consuming Garlic

Garlic is one of the most effective, heartburn home remedies. However, the catch lies in using garlic in its most appropriate form to ease the heartburn. If the heartburn starts soon after having a heavy meal or after eating acidity-inducing foods, chew a clove of peeled, raw garlic. This might seem very distasteful but it is effective. Raw garlic is packed with natural antibiotic-like compounds. This is why it is widely recommended for gastritis too.

Eating Bananas

This may sound too simple to be effective but consuming bananas is an undemanding way of easing the discomfort caused by heartburn. Bananas are most useful when the heartburn is induced by episodes of reflux, i.e. when you can feel as if the food is jumping up, along your food-pipe. Bananas are effective because of the natural starches they contain. These compounds act as a natural antacid, quickly alleviating the acidity associated with reflux disorder and thereby, easing the heartburn. Chronic sufferers of heartburn are often advised to eat a few bananas early in the morning, on an empty stomach.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is known to be as effective as over-the-counter antacids when used in the appropriate manner. If the heartburn has been troubling you for some time, prepare an apple cider-based drink that can be consumed throughout the day. For this, mix one tablespoon of apple-cider vinegar with about six ounces of water. To make this preparation more appeasing, you can add some sugar and black pepper too. This preparation can be sipped at small intervals to cure heartburn. The curative properties of apple cider vinegar are related to its ability to neutralize the stomach's acids for a short period. Similarly, you can also prepare a drink combining apple cider vinegar, water and a few drops of garlic oil.

Please Note

When heartburn becomes increasingly recurring, seeking medical advice is recommended. However, the remedies discussed above can be combined along with prescription medications too since they don't have any side-effects and don't obstruct the curative properties of the medicines. In patients with chronic heartburn such home-remedies can be used for the daily management of heartburn while among the occasional sufferers, they can cure heartburn.

Description

WE WERE SOLDIERS - DVD Movie

Based on the book by Lt. Col. Harold Moore (ret.) and journalist Joseph Galloway, We Were Soldiers offers a dignified reminder that the Vietnam War yielded its own crop of American heroes. Departing from Hollywood's typically cynical treatment of the war, writer-director Randall Wallace focuses on the first engagement of American soldiers with the North Vietnamese enemy in November 1965. Moore (played with colorful nuance by Mel Gibson) and nearly 400 inexperienced troopers from the U.S. Air Cavalry were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese Army soldiers, and the film re-creates this brutal firefight with graphic authenticity, while telling the parallel story of grieving army wives back home. While UPI reporter Galloway (Barry Pepper) risks his life to chronicle the battle, Wallace offers a balanced (though somewhat fictionalized) perspective while eliciting laudable performances from an excellent cast. Like the best World War II dramas of the 1940s, We Were Soldiers pays tribute to brave men while avoiding the pitfalls of propaganda. --Jeff Shannon
