Lian How White Sesame Seeds Recalled By Spice Industrial Inc. Due To Possible Salmonella Contamination

Spice Industrial Group, Inc. announced the recall because of the possibility of contamination in products that were distributed between November 6 and December 11 of last year.  The FDA announced this recall on March 15, 2010.

According to the FDA, Specialty Commodities Corporation, the supplier of the white sesame seeds, notified Spice Industrial Group of the contamination.  So far, no illnesses have been reported in regards to the sesame seeds.  These types of sesame seeds are often used in Asian dishes.

The Lian How White Sesame Seeds included in this recall are packaged in 5 pound white plastic bags and are labeled with Special Commodities Corporation.  These products were distributed to restaurants, wholesalers and retail markets between November 6, 2009 and December 11, 2009 in southern California.  Lian How has been the subject of many recalls over the past several years due to safety violations.

Just last April, Lian How recalled many of its Lian How and Uncle chen brands of dry spices, which included all dry spices packaged in 15 pound and smaller containers, as well as 30 pound boxes and smaller packages of crushed chili.

Consumers who find the Lian How White Sesame Seeds in their cupboards are strongly urged to return the white sesame seeds to the place where they were purchased.  Those with questions should direct them to Spice Industrial Group Inc. at 626-854-8880 Monday through Friday between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm PST.
